Addison T. Miller was a student of William Merritt Chase at the Shinnecock Summer School of Art in 1893,and he spent additional summers painting in the Hamptons. He exhibited, in 1900, a watercolor The Old Mill at Hayground, Long Island. Miller had become a closer personal friend of Chase, attested to the fact he owned many works by Chase, including works inscribed to him by Chase. Paintings by Miller are in many museums including: the Rhode Island School of Design Museum; the Detroit Institute of Art; the New York Public Library; the Library of Congress; and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris
